Reviews on Shape of Illusion
1. By Funeral Drone
"Last picture" for example could be a creepy sinister 5+ minutes had SA expanded on their idea. there's obviously talent here as everything is arranged well and played precisely, and also a talent to keeping things so short and precise. it's hard to put this satisfactorily into any one genre - it's quite experimental, almost like its been written for a bunch of scenes in a fast running movie or play, and perhaps this is its true purpose; it seems like a score."
2. By the CD critic
"What makes ‘Shape Of Illusion’ interesting is how so many different emotions, concepts and ideas are all presented by Sound Awakener. The album is made up of very short tracks, with no track lasting longer than two minutes, giving the sense that each song is perhaps an audio snapshot of some concept that Sound Awakener is trying to present. It’s an interesting idea, and it’s certainly interesting seeing the range of styles in the music itself. Tracks seem to range from classical inspired tracks to much more experimental ideas."
3. By Music won't save you
"It is a work inevitably fragmented approach, of which the title suggests the nature of illusionism sound, since most of the short tracks appear precisely the result of the transfiguration of language and means of expression."
4. By Make your own taste
"This is a very interesting album from a Vietnamese musician who has the opposite approach to long-form: short-form! [...].You can’t really pick a favourite when the pieces of music are coming so fast and thick, but let’s just say this is a fascinating mental exercise, and many of these pieces are compelling enough that I’d enjoy hearing them expanded to realize their full potential"
